We're going to walk the thirteen most exciting blocks in Manhattan. And we're going to do it between stops at four of the best beer bars in the city (that they happen to be within thirteen blocks of each other is pure serendipity). Because, as with all things, taking a tour is so much better when beer is involved. Better yet, each stop will be part of a progressive Happy Hour ($3, $3.50, $5, and at the last venue regular priced $6 pints).

Starting at 5:30 pm (we can customize an earlier or later start time for your group - just contact us at the phone or email above to arrange) on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, we'll visit four bars renowned for their selection of drafts. In between bars we'll hit:

* the home of a jazz genius and the site of one of the essential jazz clubs of the be-bop era
* two of the historic rock clubs of the '60's and '70's
* the birthplace of punk and other sites associated with the entire punk era
* the sites of the American post-modern art movement of Jackson Pollack and his peers
* the downtrodden history of great writers, drinkers, prostitutes, artists, and suicides of The Bowery
* and get an overview of the social, cultural, and immigration history of the East Village, which is, in it's own way, a microcosm for all Manhattan

We'll end the tour within spitting distance of McSorley's Old Ale House, one of the oldest bars, if not the oldest, in Manhattan (we'll discuss what other bars are in that list and where to find them). We'll give you an overview of McSorley's and you can choose to continue there on your own if you wish. (As historic as it is, it's still a local bar, and as such, not the place for a tour group en masse. They do happily encourage people who have been on a beer tour to stop by, en masse, afterward for more beer and food.) We'll also leave you with a plethora of choices of Live Music happening that very evening in clubs all within a ten minute walk or less. These places will include the punk/alternative/rock successors to CBGB's, as well as acoustic, folk, Americana, and jazz options.

Most tours take you to a place, stop, and tell you a story or a history of that place on the sidewalk in front. We do things a bit different. We'll do all of the "educational" stuff at each bar prior. You won't feel like a tourist standing around in a group, on the sidewalk, in the way of the locals. Then, we'll walk by each place we've discussed, stop for a brief moment to take it in, take a picture if you like, and we'll give you a brief recap to put the place in context. We'll minimize your time 'on tour' and maximize your time drinking beer and talking about the things that made Manhattan great in the past and the things that keep Manhattan interesting and cutting edge today.

Free beer sample tastings will be available at each bar along the way. Beer purchases are additional to the tour fee.

You must be 21 years of age AND have appropriate identification to prove it to participate in this tour. No refunds will be given if you sign up for this tour and you are not 21 or you do not bring your identification. All of the bars on the tour will be checking identification regardless of how old you are or how old you look. We cannot stress this enough.
